Denver Well Logging Society Chapter of the SPWLA

Holiday Party Information

When: Tuesday, December 15th, 4-7 PM

Where: Marlowe's

Come join us for our 2nd annual holiday party.  Those of you that were able to attend last year know we all had a wonderful time.  Appetizers will be served, and there will be door prizes to win; some geological and some not (must be present to win).  All for just $10 per person, which includes 2 drink tickets.  Bring your spouse or significant other and join us for this annual social event.

From the President

Stefani Whittaker (The Discovery Group)

Do you know younger people in your office who would benefit from attending our monthly DWLS luncheons and bi-annual short courses? We would really like to get to know them and have them join our organization. I encourage you all to be proactive and ask some of your less experienced co-workers to attend our events. I promise new members won’t lessen the number of free beer tickets at the luncheons, so go ahead and invite them.

Recently, I have been in contact with some of the young professional organizations in Denver, like NeoGeos (the young professionals of RMAG). My goal is to inform younger professionals in other societies about DWLS activities, and join forces to try and bridge the generational gap that exists in our chapter.

I have been discussing the possibility of brown bag lunch and learn’s with the NeoGeos as well. As our industry evolves, individual disciplines are becoming more and more integrated and I think one of the most valuable things we can provide our younger members is exposure to many of the different fields that make up our industry. If anyone has ideas on topics or possible speakers, please contact me as we are trying to gather ideas right now.

Please invite some of your younger co-workers and employees to join us at our Christmas Party on the 15th at Marlowe’s from 4:00-7:00pm. Come and introduce them to us, as we would love to recruit them as future members of DWLS. Hope to see you all there!

From the Vice President - Membership

Dan Krygowski (The Discovery Group)

To paraphrase Tom Hanks: "Denver, we have a problem."

This won’t be solved by duct tape and a bunch of guys at Cape Canaveral, but it can be solved by a bunch of folks at a high altitude/elevation who claim to have knowledge of the subsurface of the earth. Is this problem life-threatening? Perhaps to your local professional life, at least a little, if you call not being notified of free beer life threatening. Yes, once again I’m whining about unpaid dues.

A recent email to about 100 delinquent members yielded a 10% response, so I’m trying again. Multiple exposures to new foods are necessary before kids begin to accept them, so I’m trying a similar thing here. Your "no thank you bite" equivalent is to take out your credit card, go to the DWLS website at http://dwls.spwla.org/Luncheon_Reservation.htm, follow the instructions, and pay up.

Now the threat: Failure to pay your dues will mean that you’ll be dropped from the mailing list. (That’s supposed to be a bad thing…) If that happens, you’ll have to depend on your "friends" to tell you about the talks (and free beer), and you know your friends better than anyone else, so give that some consideration.

Hey, you’re on the computer now, so just move your cursor up a couple of lines to the link, and get on with it. If everybody who needs to does it, you’ll be able to be part of the effort to bury Noga and me under a pile of digits. So to encourage you, I’ll use those words that your loving mother used with you: "Do it now! Because I said so!!!"
