Denver Well Logging Society Chapter of the SPWLA

Meeting Information

Ship Rock Grille at Red Rocks Amphitheatre

June social event for members and their guests (spouses, etc.).  The social will be followed by a Movie on the Rocks - The Princess Bride.

From the President

Stefani Whittaker (The Discovery Group)

We are happy to announce this years June meeting will be on June 15th from 4-7pm in the Ship Rock Grille at Red Rocks Amphitheatre, followed by Film on the Rocks which will be showing "The Princess Bride" sponsored by the Denver Film Society. For $15 / person (and partners are welcome) each person will receive 2 drink tickets (our thanks to Core Labs and The Discovery Group for sponsoring), appetizers, your entrance into the movie should you wish to attend, and chances to win exciting door prizes.

If you have never had the opportunity to see a Film on the Rocks, I highly recommend this event to everyone. However, if you do not wish to attend the movie, we would still love to see you at this fun end of the year event.  If you DO wish to attend Film on the Rocks, there are a few things to note:

  1. Our event is from 4-7pm and gates for Film on the Rocks open at 6:00pm. There will be bands and cartoons before the movie for your entertainment.
  2. You will be sitting on the ground, so it is advised to bring blankets and/or pillows, but no chairs are allowed.
  3. No glass is allowed in the park but you are welcome to bring food and commercially sealed plastic bottles in. You may not bring in alcohol, but there are vendors in the amphitheatre who will be serving alcohol.
  4. Bring warm layers of clothes as the movie will start at dusk (~9:00pm) and will end about 11:00pm, if you choose to stay for the entire movie.

Technical meetings popular at DWLS

This year the average attendance at DWLS luncheons was 76 people, up 19% from last year. The most popular talk was by Bob Cluff in April on "Log evaluation of gas shales: a 35-year perspective." Both technology workshops (October and March) were sold out. Thank you for your support, and let Dawn Burgess (new VP-Technology) know if you want to give a talk next year.

From the Past President

Bill Rodgers (Weatherford International)

Congratulations to the 54th Board of Directors and Officers!

Please join me in thanking our new Denver Well Log Officers and Board of Directors for donating their time and organizational skills to help Denver area geoscientists continue their social networking and exchange of technical ideas for the advancement of the science of petrophysics.
